In June 2016 the article was called ‘The Number Three’ and here it is:
The Number Three
This month’s focus on the number 3 has made me consider the three most important elements of a luxury watch – Can you guess what they are and the obvious omission?
Firstly and most importantly your watch should make you feel good every time you wear it – Luxury is all about emotion and quality as opposed to function after all.
Secondly it should be appropriate – a JLC ultra-thin is a beautiful thing but not appropriate for a day at the beach perhaps.
Thirdly is the financial aspect – while I’ve never heard anybody say they wish they had spent less on a watch I have heard them say the opposite – but budgets are important and no watch is worth putting yourself at risk for.
Try to make sure it’s a good investment too – the £30,000 Rolex Daytona that we’ve just sold cost £120 when it was new in 1972…
So there you have three considerations.
And the omission?
Well who really needs to know the accurate time to within a second a month anyway?
