When asked to name a shortlist of the most important watches ever made, everyone who knows anything about the topic HAS to mention the Omega Speedmaster Professional
In the 1960’s when NASA were looking for large, manual wind chronograph for Neil Armstrong and his crew to take to the moon, this is the watch that they wore (Automatic movements don’t work in zero gravity you see) and ever since, it has been referred to as ‘The Moonwatch’. Incidentally, they took these watches on five subsequent lunar missions too so it’s hardly a flash in the pan.
There have been many incarnations of the Speedmaster over the years including the vintage models and the Reduced that we love so much but what we have here is a 2020 version of the classic design – three sub dials, no date – this is the version with the sapphire crystal and display back. This reference has recently been superseded by the 2021 version and having seen that I can honestly say that this is the MUCH better watch – The retail price is now over £6,000 and quality seems to have taken a dip.
When you open up the wooden inner box it reveals a logo’d case housing the watch as well as an Omega Loupe, a Speedmaster paperweight, two NATO straps and a strap changing tool as well as two books and all the papers and documents that you would expect – an incredible ownership package.
This watch is in 99.9% perfect condition with the balance of the Omega warranty and with everything that came with it from new from the huge list above. The clasp stickers have been removed since the photos were taken
It is still covered by the Omega warranty and the movement is running within COSC and won’t need a service for several years yet.
