This Rolex 14270 Explorer is an excellent example of one of the very last of the Rolex 14270 Explorer 1 watches. . It has the classic proportions of the first sports Rolex that was made in 1954 and worn by Sir Edmund Hillary on the first successful expedition to climb to the peak of Everest – a brief history of the Sports Watch is here if you fancy a read.
The Explorer makes a lovely understated gentleman’s sports Rolex but would also look great on a lady who likes a larger watch as it’s 2mm larger than the Rolex mid-size – well worth considering for either possibility, especially as it brings a more active feel and is more robust than its non-sports stable mates.
The case, Swiss only dial, hands and bracelet of this watch are SUPERB with no signs of wear whatsoever. Importantly, this rare vintage piece is 100% original which is of course essential to the ongoing value of a piece like this that will be a great investment – this particular example looks as though it has been worn a few times and then put in a safe – the case has never been polished and the caseback sticker is still in place and clearly legible . The Full Set comes with both boxes, the papers and their wallet, as well as the calendar, booklets, green tag and red seal and makes a very collectible and highly desirable example.
This Rolex 14270 has been serviced and then tested by a Rolex authorised watchmaker and it is supplied with a 12 month warranty.
