This Rolex 14270 Explorer is an excellent example of one of the very last of the Rolex 14270 Explorer 1 watches. . It has the classic proportions of the first sports Rolex that was made in 1954 and worn by Sir Edmund Hillary on the first successful expedition to climb to the peak of Everest – a brief history of the Sports Watch is here if you fancy a read.
The Explorer makes a lovely understated gentleman’s sports Rolex but would also look great on a lady who likes a larger watch as it’s 2mm larger than the Rolex mid-size – well worth considering for either possibility, especially as it brings a more active feel and is more robust than its non-sports stable mates.
The case, Supeluminova dial, hands and bracelet of this watch are superb with only very light signs of wear – there is a tiny mark on the left hand side that you can see in the photos but it’s very small. Importantly, this rare vintage piece is 100% original which is of course essential to the ongoing value of a watch like this that will be a great investment. The 14270 was only made with Superluminova dial and hands for around 18 months making it a rare reference.
The Full Set comes with both boxes, the papers and their wallet, as well as the calendar, booklets, green tag and red seal and makes a very collectible and highly desirable example.
This Rolex 14270 has just been serviced and then tested by a Rolex authorised watchmaker and it is supplied with a 12 month warranty.
