The Rolex Milgauss was developed in the late 1950s specifically for the scientists at CERN whose wristwatches wouldn’t work in areas of high magnetism because the movement of most watches stops working when subjected to magnetic fields measuring around 70 Gauss.
This watch was specially designed to work in areas of up to 1,000 Gauss – hence the name ‘Milgauss’.
The recent Milgauss range has contained different models of which the ‘Glass Vert’ or ‘GV’ are the only ones still made. The white and black dialled versions were discontinued a few years ago and have become all the more desirable and collectible since – especially the white dialled ones, possibly because they were discontinued first.
The simple design combined with the size of the case of the Milgauss lends it a solid feeling – unfussy and uncluttered with nothing superfluous – it’s just like a large, sporty Datejust.
This is a brand new, unworn watch bought in 2008 and untouched since – it has the original purchase receipt. It is still stickered and is perfect in every way and complete with everything that came from the factory – it’s a stunner and a fantastic watch for those Rolex lovers who want something a bit different.
This Milgauss has just been tested by a Rolex certified watchmaker and is running well within COSC spec – it is supplied with a twelve month warranty.
