Omega Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon
Dark Side Of The Moon
When asked to name a shortlist of the most important watches ever made, everyone who knows anything about the topic HAS to mention the Omega Speedmaster Professional
In the 1960’s when NASA were looking for large, manual wind chronograph for Neil Armstrong and his crew to take to the moon, this is the watch that they wore (Automatic movements don’t work in zero gravity you see) and ever since, it has been referred to as ‘The Moonwatch’. Incidentally, they took these watches on five subsequent lunar missions too so it’s hardly a flash in the pan.
In 1968, the Apollo 8 crew became the first humans to ever see the Dark Side Of The Moon. 50 years later, the Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon Apollo 8 was produced by Omega in tribute to that mission.
The watch case is made from sleek black ceramic and the dial has been skeletonised to reveal a blackened movement inside which has been laser-etched to produce realistic images of the Lunar surface.
As well as the yellow stitching on the perforated leather strap, the chronograph hands, Speedmaster and Tachymetre words are varnished yellow, while the watch’s tachymeter scale and crown are filled with white Super-LumiNova.
Our client bought this watch from an Omega boutique in 2019 and hardly ever wore it before trading it in with us – it is as new and in perfect condition.
This watch has everything that came with it from new including the case back and glass stickers, tags, papers, books, the lot.
