Porsche 3701 Chronograph
The IWC Porsche 3701 Chronograph with its hidden pushers was designed by Porsche and released by IWC in 1980. A rare Porsche watch.
Ferdinand Porsche’s avante-garde design for the 3701 Chronograph followed the earlier Kompassuhr and Titan Chronograph watches – The all aluminium case, integrated lugs, bracelet and even pushers created a watch design that was genuinely unlike any other – it was a genuine departure from standard watch design that suited the Porsche design brand very well indeed.
The hands are classic and beautiful, especially the slender red chronograph hand. It was impossible to catch the full colour of the hand in the photos – it looks faded and orange here but is in fact a bold and strong original red.
The aluminium case and bracelet are in excellent original condition with a crisp print and inlaid paint and everything works as it should. The dial on this watch is unusual – it is definitely original but all others I have seen have “IWC” printed on them whereas this one simply says “Porsche Design” giving a far cleaner look.
The movement has just been tested here and is running beautifully.
Without doubt an appreciating asset, especially as this is from the first year of production, and really well priced compared to others on the market.
