The Omega Seamaster 300 was introduced in 1957 alongside the Speedmaster and Railmaster as part of Omega's famous trilogy of professional watches.
Designed as a serious diving watch, the Seamaster 300 was water resistant to 200 metres despite its name, and had a rotating bezel, very clear dial and Omega's bullet proof automatic movement.
Our example is a reference CK2913-7 dating from 1958, one of the early generations of the Seamaster 300, with a 39mm stainless steel case, black rotating bezel and dauphine hands.
It also has a distinctive 'lollipop' seconds hand, with its large circular luminous tip. This unusual hand design is one of the most recognisable features of early Seamaster 300s and adds to the vintage feel as well as the rarity.
What makes this watch especially interesting is its original 'Tropical' dial. Originally black, the dial has developed a remarkable mottled chocolate-brown look over time, a natural ageing process that makes every tropical dial unique.
Inside is Omega's calibre 501 automatic movement, just tested and running properly.
Early Seamaster 300s have become increasingly collectible, particularly examples with attractive original dials, and this one is a lovely illustration of how more than sixty years of natural ageing can give a vintage watch a character all of its own.
