This vintage Omega Speedmaster marks an important moment in Moonwatch history - the first Speedmaster to acknowledge the Apollo XI Moon landing on its case back.
Produced in the early 1970s, the Straight Writing Speedmaster introduced a simple engraved reference to NASA’s lunar achievement. Earlier Speedmasters carried no mention of the Moon landing, while later examples adopted the more familiar circular inscription and raised Hippocampus. That makes this short-lived version an important transitional model for collectors.
This example has all the details you want to see in a vintage Omega Speedmaster: the original early stepped dial with printed Omega logo, correct DNN bezel insert and original hands. The hands have aged at a slightly different rate to the dial - entirely characteristic of many vintage Speedmasters and part of the watch’s honest originality.
It also retains its original 1171 bracelet with 633 end links, presented in excellent condition with its original secure clasp. Inside is Omega’s celebrated manual-wind Calibre 861, accompanied by the classic black three-register dial, Hesalite crystal and no-date configuration that define the traditional Moonwatch.
Most significantly, this watch is presented as a genuine Full Set, complete with its original inner and outer boxes, warranty papers and wallet - an increasingly difficult combination to find with a Speedmaster of this age.
The watch itself is in excellent condition, with no evidence of excessive polishing or damage, and has recently been tested and is running well.
