The Rolex Daytona Zenith is one of the most collectible modern Daytonas, marking the first automatic generation and powered by the legendary Zenith El Primero movement.
The Rolex Daytona Zenith reference 16520 occupies a special place in Daytona history. Produced between 1988 and 2000, it introduced the first automatic movement to the collection, with Rolex extensively modifying Zenith's renowned El Primero calibre to create one of the most celebrated chronograph movements ever fitted to a Daytona.
This 1998 example is one of the final Zenith-powered references produced and is presented as a wonderfully honest watch. The case remains in excellent, unoverpolished condition, the bezel engraving is crisp and well defined, and the bracelet shows only light signs of careful wear. Adding further character, the sub-dial surrounds have naturally aged to a subtle coffee tone, giving the watch the sought-after 'Patrizzi' appearance admired by collectors.
Supplied with its original inner and outer boxes, booklets and swing tags, the original warranty papers have unfortunately been lost. However, the watch benefits from a Rolex Service Centre service completed in March 2025, with the service card and receipt included confirming that no components were replaced. The case sides still retain the original Rolex Service Centre protective stickers, and the watch remains covered by the Rolex international service warranty until March 2027.
The Rolex Daytona Zenith 16520 continues to be one of the most important references in modern Rolex collecting, combining historical significance, outstanding wearability and enduring investment appeal. Recently tested and running within COSC specification, this exceptional example is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
