The Rolex Sky Dweller is a remarkable piece of horological engineering, even for a company of Rolex' standing.
The condition of the watch is superb with nothing visible to the naked eye to show that it has ever been worn.
With boxes, papers books and tags, it is a Full Set and is still under Rolex warranty.
At first glance similar to a 41mm Datejust but with a little extra going on, I'm quite sure that most casual observers have no idea of the technical complexity going on behind the Sky Dweller's elegant yet complex dial.
Firstly, the Sky Dweller's combination of home time, GMT time and annual calendar is too complex for a standard multifunction crown to handle so Rolex designed an ingenious system that works by using a rotating bezel to select the function that the crown operates. That in itself is quite brilliant.
Rather than having an extra GMT hand like most other dual time zone pieces, the Sky Dweller reads the second time zone on a second, off centre dial using a fixed red triangle on the dial.
Then it gets really clever. The Sky Dweller features an annual calendar that displays the date on the standard date window and the month by turning the relevant hour marker red - One o'clock for January, two o'clock for February etc. It can tell the difference between 30 day and 31 day months so it only has to be set on the 1st of March three years out of four to allow for leap years.
All in all an elegant solution and a really superb watch.
This one was bought at a UK A.D. in 2022 and has been carefully worn.
Just tested by certified watch specialists Michlmayr & Co. this Rolex Sky Dweller is running within COSC spec.
