An early Rolex Submariner Date 16610 with original tritium dial, aluminium bezel and the slimmer proportions that make this generation so appealing.
Produced from 1989 until 2010, the Rolex Submariner Date 16610 occupies an interesting position in Submariner history. It retains the aluminium bezel and more restrained case proportions associated with earlier Rolex sports watches, while introducing the robust construction and everyday usability that helped define the modern Submariner.
Dating from 1993, this is an early example of the reference and has clearly been worn with care. The case remains very well preserved, with a good finish across the lugs and case sides, while the Oyster bracelet shows only a little wear. The original aluminium bezel insert is also very good, with just one small mark.
Importantly, the tritium dial and handset are original and unmarked. The lume is now completely inactive, exactly as you would expect from tritium of this age - a detail that adds to the character and originality of an early 16610.
Inside is the Rolex Calibre 3135, the automatic movement that powered the Submariner Date for decades and earned an enviable reputation for durability and reliability. Recently tested, this example is running smoothly and strongly and is backed by our 12-month warranty.
It's also supplied as a genuine Full Set, including its original Rolex boxes, papers and swing tags, along with the original calendar and Rolex anchor.
The 16610 is a compelling bridge between vintage and modern Rolex, but finding an early example with this level of originality, condition and completeness is becoming increasingly difficult. This 1993 Full Set is exactly the sort worth seeking out.
