An exceptionally well-preserved vintage Tudor Submariner, with its original Metres First ‘Small Shield’ dial, Rolex Oyster case and remarkably complete Full Set.
The Tudor Submariner occupies a fascinating place in the history of both Tudor and Rolex. Built around Rolex’s proven Oyster case architecture but powered by Tudor movements, these watches offered genuine tool-watch capability and today have become highly sought-after vintage sports watches in their own right.
This example is particularly impressive. The original Metres First ‘Small Shield’ Tudor dial and handset are clean and bright, with virtually no patina. The bezel is equally impressive, retaining excellent definition to the stainless steel and a beautifully preserved aluminium insert. Overall, the watch appears lightly worn and retains the character of an unpolished vintage example.
Turn it over and another important piece of Tudor history remains clearly visible. The caseback retains the engraving “Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva” - a reminder of just how closely the Tudor Submariner was connected to its Rolex counterpart. The original bracelet is also present and remains in excellent condition.
Completeness is another major strength. This is a genuine Full Set, supplied with the correct boxes, original papers, booklets and tags, even the original Tudor anchor. Tudor service documentation from its 2010 service is also included.
Recently tested, the watch is running smoothly within COSC specification, with the internal condition matching the quality of the exterior.
Original dial and hands, outstanding bezel, Rolex Oyster case, original bracelet and an unusually complete set of accessories. This is exactly the combination that makes a vintage Tudor Submariner increasingly difficult to find.
