For the collector who has already discovered the obvious Swiss names - the Zeitwinkel 273° is independent watchmaking at its most interesting.
Founded in 2006, Zeitwinkel produces watches in small numbers for enthusiasts who value engineering, originality and finishing over brand recognition. The 273° is a perfect example, combining an unusual complication layout with a beautifully constructed 42.5mm case, assembled from 26 individual components through more than 80 production steps.
The white dial is where things get particularly interesting. Zeitwinkel's patented large-date display sits unusually at 11 o'clock, balanced by small seconds and a power-reserve indicator. It's distinctive without being showy and gives the 273° an identity all of its own.
Inside is Zeitwinkel's in-house ZW0103 automatic movement, offering an impressive 72-hour power reserve and beautifully finished for viewing through the sapphire case back. It's presented on a Zeitwinkel rubber strap with deployant clasp.
This example is in lovely, lightly worn condition and appears almost perfect to the naked eye. It's also supplied as a Full Set with its original boxes, papers and manual, and has just been tested and is running within specification.
The 273° remains available new, but with a UK landed cost of close to £22,000, this pre-owned example makes a compelling case for itself. Rare, beautifully engineered and refreshingly different, it's a watch for the collector who values serious watchmaking rather than the name on everyone else's wrist.
